Southern Automotive Repair Conference Scheduled for April 20-21 in Biloxi

The 2018 Southern Automotive Repair Conference (SARC) will be held Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21 at the IP Resort Casino Spa in Biloxi, Miss.

SARC’s purpose is to provide an annual industry forum for collision repair professionals in the Southeast region, where attendees can visit exhibits, receive important updates and information, stay abreast of new vehicle technologies, promote consumer safety, and succeed in the marketplace.

Conference hosts are the state auto body associations of Alabama/ALARISE, Georgia/GCIA, Louisiana/LACIA, Mississippi/MSCRA, and Tennessee/TCRA.

Fenix Parts Confirms Receipt of Offer from Upstate Shredding

Fenix Parts, Inc. (Pink Sheets:FENX), the auto recycler, today confirmed that it has received an unsolicited, non-binding offer from Upstate Shredding, LLC to acquire all of the outstanding shares of common stock of Fenix Parts. The non-binding offer was received outside of the company’s previously announced strategic alternatives process, which is being managed by Stifel.

Universal Technical Institute Launches Free Summer Training Program for High School Juniors

Nagy’s Celebrates Grand Opening at New Orrville, Ohio Office and Estimating Center

CAPA Certified Collision Repair Parts Program Grows 19% in 2017

Adds six new manufacturers to program

The Certified Automotive Parts Association (CAPA) reported that it saw across the board increases in the number of CAPA Certified parts available to the U.S. market during 2017.  Based on distribution of its unique yellow and blue CAPA Quality Seal, manufacturers have increased seal requests by 19 percent over 2016. This is 1,600,000 more than 2016 for a record total of 9,912,000 in 2017.  This 19 percent increase significantly exceeded the 12 percent annual average increase CAPA has been experiencing during the past five years.

Enterprise Foundation Donates $20 Million to Help Fight Hunger

The Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation has now donated $20 million to food banks around the world as part of one of the largest donations aimed at fighting hunger.

Enterprise employees volunteering at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama.

RICO Lawsuit Against State Farm to Proceed

Judge denies State Farm motion to dismiss case seeking reinstatement of $1.18 billion aftermarket collision repair parts verdict.

U.S. District Judge David R. Herndon denied a motion last week by State Farm attorney seeking a summary judgement to have a 2012 lawsuit dismissed that alleges the auto insurer recruited and secretly bankrolled Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lloyd Karmeier’s 2004 election campaign to avoid a billion dollar judgment against the company over its specification of non-OEM parts in the 1990s.

ASA Calls for Opposition to Missouri Anti-Vehicle Safety Inspection Legislation

According to the Automotive Service Association (ASA) on February 7, the Missouri House Transportation Committee held a hearing to address House Bill (HB) 1444 that would repeal Missouri’s vehicle safety inspection program.

ASA opposes HB 1444 and encourages all interested parties in Missouri to visit the alerts section of TakingTheHill.com to contact their state representatives in opposition.

During the hearing, proponents of HB 1444 cited consumer expense and overall inconvenience as justification for the legislation. They also claimed a lack of evidence as to the program preventing accidents, injuries and deaths.

A.M. Best Projects Property/Casualty Insurance 2017 Underwriting Loss of $29 Billion

A.M. Best expects the U.S. property/casualty (P/C) industry to post a second consecutive underwriting loss in 2017, driven mainly by catastrophe losses. As a result, the industry 2017 combined ratio is estimated to deteriorate to 105.1 from 100.9 in the previous year, according to A.M. Best’s 2018 Review/Preview special report on the P/C industry.

The Best’s Market Segment Report, titled, “U.S. Property/Casualty 2018 Review & Preview,” states that the expected net underwriting loss of $29.3 billion in 2017, which followed a $6.5 billion loss in 2016, will cause pre-tax operating income to decline substantially to $14.8 billion from $41.1 billion

Allstate Reports Revenue Up 6.1% in Fourth Quarter, Tax Cuts Save $506 Million

Allstate brand auto net written premiums up 4.2 percent on growth in average premium. Accident frequency declined in the quarter.

The Allstate Corporation (NYSE: ALL) reported financial results for the fourth quarter of 2017. In the fourth quarter, the company reported revenue of $9.843 billion, up 6.1 percent from $9.278 billion in the fourth quarter of 2016. For the full year, Allstate reported $38.524 billion, up 5.4 percent from $36.534 billion in 2016.
