Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes announced its next EcoLean Level 1 workshop will be held March 21-22 at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton in Detroit, Mich.

U.S. Length of Rental Increased in Q4 2016

According to the latest research from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the U.S. collision repair industry’s average length of rental increased 5 percent compared to 2015.

The recent Length of Rental (LOR) trend continued in the Fourth Quarter of 2016 as the average increased to 12.5 days from 11.9, or 5.0 percent, in the Fourth Quarter of 2015. While most of the U.S. hovered near the .6 days average increase, there were three regional outliers – The Northeast, which was essentially flat, the Southwest, which increased nearly one full day, and the Mountain region which jumped 1.5 days to 13.5. National Industry Goodwill Tour Kicks Off SkillsUSA Week

Service King Announces New Richardson, Texas Home Office

Service King Collision Repair Centers this week announced it will lease a 64,916-square foot office from investment management firm JLL at Galatyn Commons, located at 2375 North Glenville Drive in Richardson, Texas. The new home office will initially house approximately 170 Service King teammates, who will be relocating from the company’s current home office in Richardson’s Tower 2600.

Service King expects to take occupancy of the new office by summer 2017. Dallas-based architecture and design firm Corgan is planning the facility’s interior design prior to build-out.

UBM Teams with AMi, NATEF, TST to Deliver NACE Automechanika Scholarships

In an effort to bring affordable training to more automotive professionals in need, the UBM Community Engagement Program has joined with Automotive Management Institute (AMi), National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and Technicians Service Training (TST) to provide scholarships for NACE Automechanika Chicago covering travel expenses, training costs and access to trade show product discovery.

The scholarship application is available online. Criteria for each scholarship is listed and a single sign-on form is available for applicants. Winners will be notified in late May.

Auto Care Association Urges Congress to Stop Border Adjustment Tax

The Auto Care Association has joined Americans for Affordable Products (AAP), a coalition of businesses and trade associations, to stop the Border Adjustment Tax (BAT). AAP is running a national campaign to mobilize consumers and show lawmakers that a discriminatory tax on imports will result in their constituents paying higher prices for everyday items such as food, gas, auto repair, clothing and medicine, and should not be included in tax reform.

Australia Automotive Aftermarket Association Raises Concern About Independent Access to OEM Technical Information

NY Collision Repair Shop Owner Indicted for Tax and Insurance Fraud

New York Attorney General Alleges Defendants Stole Over $480,000 In Sales Tax; Collision Repair Shop Owner And His Wife Also Allegedly Failed To Remit Personal Income Taxes Totaling Over $160,000

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and Acting Commissioner of Taxation and Finance Nonie Manion announced the arrest of Jose Cardona, 38, on four separate indictments related to his ownership and operation of two Nassau County collision repair shops. Jose Cardona’s wife, Veronica Cardona, 38, and employee Peter Bifolco, 35, were also charged. The indictments were unsealed late Wednesday.

Collision Repair Industry Production Set Record in October

Production employment and hours increased in October compared to September. Largest monthly percentage increase compared to 2015.

An analysis of the latest data released from the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), shows that total production for the collision repair industry was up in October versus the previous month and up from October 2015. Production exceeded the pre-recession peak of March 2008, setting a new record monthly high.
