AASP/NJ Lou Scoras Memorial Golf Outing Next Monday

For the thirteenth consecutive year, the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of New Jersey (AASP/NJ) will pay tribute to beloved former Board member Lou Scoras with their annual golf outing in his name. This year’s event will be held Monday, September 18th, at the Colonia Country Club in Colonia, N.J. The outing not only honors Scoras’ memory, but also raises money for a scholarship that aims to inspire and engage the next generation of automotive technicians.

Collision Student of the Year Nominations Due September 22

Launched last year, the Collision Student of the Year award, seeks to recognize truly outstanding students training for a career in the collision industry. Appeals Court Overturns Dismissal in Collision Repair Shop’s Lawsuits Against Insurers

Court rules lawsuits by five body shops alleging federal antitrust and state law violations can proceed.

On Thursday, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit overturned a District Court ruling that had dismissed complaints in five lawsuits brought by collision repair facilities alleging violations of federal antitrust law as well as violations of state law by insurance companies. The five suits were among more than a dozen that were consolidated in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

California Cracks Down on Unlicensed Vehicle Dismantlers

Strike Team Targets the Nipomo Mesa Region

Investigators with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) targeted 35 locations in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties in an effort to combat unlicensed vehicle dismantlers. During a two-day enforcement operation on September 6 and 7, DMV investigators cited 14 individuals for illegally dismantling vehicles and other offenses. In addition, the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) found seven of these locations in violation of state and federal environmental regulations.

NACE Automechanika Chicago Reports Nearly 8,000 Attendees at July Event

NACE Automechanika, the U.S. trade show dedicated to high-end technical and management-related training for automotive collision repair and service repair shops, announced that 360 suppliers participated in the show that was attended by 7700 people in its return to Chicago on July 26-29.

Fix Auto Canada Adds Collision Repair Center to Network in New Brunswick

Department of Labor Overtime Regulation Ruled Invalid

Business groups, State Attorneys General applaud decision permanently invalidating  overtime rule that more than doubled current salary threshold.

On August 31, Federal District Judge Amos Mazzant ruled in favor of more than fifty-five Texas and national business groups that had sued last year to block the implementation of the U.S. Department of Labor’s overtime rule issued in May 2016. Judge Mazzant issued a temporary injunction against the rule in November 2016. The new ruling has the effect of making that injunction permanent.

Axalta Conducts Certification Program for FAW Audi Refinish Technicians in China

Axalta Coating Systems (NYSE:AXTA) announced it recently conducted the FAW Audi Senior Paint Technician Certification program for 240 paint technicians. This is the largest group to date since Axalta and FAW Audi began collaboration to offer training and certification services in 2011.

39 North Capital Purchases New Jersey Maaco Franchise

39 North Capital, LLC has acquired the Maaco location in Maple Shade, N.J. through its 39N Maaco affiliate.  With this transaction, 39N Maaco now owns seven Maaco paint and collision centers across the Northeast.

Maaco Maple Shade also holds a Heavy Duty license to paint and repair trucks, buses and other oversized vehicles.

Insurance Association Calls for Improvements to Federal Autonomous Vehicle Legislation

PCI calls for legislators to preserve third-party access to vehicle data that insurers and independent collision repairers need to work on advanced systems. Limit exemptions to existing safety standard.

The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) is calling on legislators to preserve third-party access to vehicle data in highly automated vehcle (HAV) legislation, H.R. 3388, the Safely Ensuring Lives Future Deployment and Research in Vehicle Evolution Act (SAFE DRIVE Act), that was approved yesterday by the U.S. House of Representatives.

Collision Repair Education Foundation Raises $120,000 to Support Scholarship and Grant Programs

Boyd Group Acquires Collision Repair Center in Ohio

Enterprise Transporting More Than 17,000 Vehicles to  Southeast Texas to Assist in Recovery Effort

CARSTAR Adds Collision Repair Centers to Network in Michigan and Texas
