Solera Acquires Dutch Auto Insurance Software Company Colimbra

Solera Holdings, Inc. announced the acquisition of the Netherlands-based insurance software company, Colimbra Holding B.V. This is Solera’s second acquisition in the Netherlands during the last six months. In January, Solera announced the acquisition of Digidentity B.V., a provider of next-generation technologies that secure and authenticate online identities.

ASA Urges Ohio Collision Repairers to Contact Legislators on Budget Amendment on Non-OEM Parts Disclosure

Proposal would shift burden of notifying customers about non-OEM parts from insurers to collision repairers.

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) is urging collision repairers in Ohio to contact legislators over an amendment proposed for the Ohio budget legislation that would exempt insurers from providing notice to customers when non-OEM parts are used in a repair.

If enacted, the repair shop would be held responsible for notifying the customer. As most auto insurers’ policies require the use of non-OEM or used parts during the repair of the vehicle, ASA believes this measure would place an unfair burden of enforcing the insurer’s

Supreme Court Decision Delivers Victory for Aftermarket on Patents

In what the Auto Care Association calls a “major victory for the auto care industry.” the Supreme Court upheld the legal precedent of patent exhaustion, which states that a company’s right to protect its patent ends when the product is sold to the end user.

Information from an amicus brief submitted to the Supreme Court by the Association was used by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. in reversing a Federal Circuit decision that the Association was concerned would have been damaging to the manufacture and sales of aftermarket parts as well as independently remanufactured or rebuilt components.

Solera Proposes Sale of E3 Technical in UK to Satisfy Competition Authorities Concerns on Autodata Acquisition

UK Authority will consider proposal to divest technical information provider to preserve competition.

The United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced yesterday that it is considering proposals from Solera to overcome competition concerns over its January acquisition of Autodata. According to the CMA, Solera has proposed to sell E3 Technical, which is part of CarweB, to a buyer approved by the CMA.

J.D. Power Project New Vehicle Sales Pace to Drop Again in May, Lowers 2017 Outlook

The new vehicle retail sales pace in 2017 is expected to be lowest for the month of May since 2013, according to a forecast developed jointly by J.D. Power and LMC Automotive.

Sherwin-Williams Receives Regulatory Approval to Complete Valspar Acquisition.

Acquisition expected to close June 1. Valspar announces refinish production expansion

The Sherwin-Williams Company (NYSE:SHW) announced it has received regulatory approval from the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Canadian Competition Bureau (CCB) to complete its acquisition of The Valspar Corporation (NYSE: VAL).  The FTC and CCB were the only remaining regulatory approvals required to close the acquisition. Sherwin-Williams expects to close the acquisition on June 1 subject to customary closing conditions.
