Autonomous Vehicles Will Add $81 Billion in New Premiums for Auto Insurers by 2025

According to a report by Accenture, while the long-term impact of autonomous vehicles will reduce the need for auto insurance, initially they will expand the insurance business.

Insurance coverage for autonomous vehicles will bring $81 billion in new premiums to the U.S. auto insurance industry over the next eight years, driven by risks related to cybersecurity, software and hardware and by the need for additional public infrastructure coverage, according to a new report from Accenture (NYSE:ACN) and Stevens Institute of Technology.

According to the report, traditional auto insurance earned premiums will peak in 2023.

(NYSE:AN) announced the resignation of William “Bill” Berman as President and Chief Operating Officer effective May 15.  Berman will continue to serve as an employee of the Company in an advisory capacity through June 30. Mike Jackson, AutoNation’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, will assume all operating responsibilities as AutoNation begins the selection process for a new President and Chief Operating Officer.

UK’s National Body Repair Association Issues Advice to Collision Repair Shops Following Data Breach

The UK-based National Body Repair Association (NBRA) is providing recommendations to collision repair shops following a customer information data breach that was brought light by its members last year. The breach is being investigated by the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) resulting in several raids.

“The National Body Repair Association (NBRA) has been focusing heavily on protecting member’s interests related to data security within bodyshops over the past 12 months,” comments Jason Moseley, NBRA Director.

Working with the ICO, the NBRA has been seeking to uncover the illegal activity of unauthorized access of a body shops customer’s data.

KPMG Project Nearly 50% Decline in OEM Collision Repair Parts Business by 2030

According to report, autonomous vehicles and crash avoidance technologies will shrink collision repair volume.

According to a new report from the KPMG U.S. Manufacturing Institute Automotive Center, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will see a substantial, 48 percent, decrease in their collision repair parts business as a result of self-driving cars.  KPMG projects that OEM collision repair revenue, which it pegs at $5.6 billion in 2015, could drop to $2.7 billion by 2030 and dwindle to $1.4 billion by 2040.
