Axalta Releases First Quarter 2017 Earnings

Axalta Coating Systems Ltd. (NYSE:AXTA) announced its financial results for the first quarter ended March 31.

First quarter net sales of $1.0078 billion were driven by volume growth of 8.9 percent, offset partly by 1.2 percent lower average selling prices and by a 2.2 percent negative foreign currency translation impact. On a constant currency basis net sales increased 7.7 percent compared to the year-ago quarter, driven by volume growth. Acquisitions added 4.5 percent of the volume growth in the quarter. Repairify Opens New Headquarters in Texas

Repairify, makers of the asTech remote diagnostic tool, opened its new headquarters this month in Plano, Texas. The 21,000 sq. ft. facility features a dedicated training and research area along with expanded space for additional master technicians. The new office, which is three times larger than the previous location, is in addition to the company’s existing operation in Jacksonville, Fla and will allow for growth.

JN Phillips Auto Glass to Open Eight New Stores Servicing New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont

JN Phillips Auto Glass, a New England-owned company, announced a new investment initiative for servicing auto glass customers across Northern New England, including New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont.

April New Vehicle Retail Sales Match 2016 levels

J.D. Power and LMC Automotive Report Incentives Rise Considerably

New vehicle retail sales are expected to remain on pace with last year, but incentive spending is at record levels through April, according to a forecast developed jointly by J.D. Power and LMC Automotive.

Retail sales in the month of April are anticipated to reach 1,169,700 units, a 1.3 percent increase compared with April 2016 on a selling day adjusted basis.  Year-to-date, retail sales in 2017 are up 0.3 percent compared to the same period a year ago.

FCA Delivering Additional 500 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Minivans as Waymo Self-driving Program Expands

FCA US LLC announced today that Waymo, formerly the Google autonomous vehicle project, will add 500 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans to expand its self-driving program. FCA previously delivered 100 minivans, modified for self-driving, to Waymo during the second half of 2016. Production of the additional 500 minivans will ramp up beginning next month. Waymo will then outfit these vehicles with its self-driving technology.

Former New York Shop Owner Richard A. Altieri Sr. Passes Away

Richard A. Altieri Sr., 92, passed away on April 21, at his Amsterdam, N.Y. home after a long illness with family by his side. Born in Amsterdam on April 4, 1925 he was the last living child of Anthony and Anna Altieri.

He was predeceased by Edith Caprara Altieri, his wife of 41 years and mother of their seven children. Richard is also predeceased by his second wife Matilda (Tilly) Macuirles Altieri, who he married after Edith’s passing – a marriage that lasted for 24 years until Matilda’s passing in 2016. He was also predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Altieri.

Axalta Opens Regional Auto Refinish Training Centre in Dubai

Axalta Coating Systems (NYSE:AXTA) last week announced the launch of its Automotive Refinish Training Centre in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Nationwide Insurance Awards $50,000 to Schools Through Collision Repair Education Foundation

The Collision Repair Education Foundation announced that Nationwide Insurance has made a $50,000 donation to assist the Education Foundation’s support of high school and college collision school programs across the country through school grants.

Six schools were supported through these Nationwide school grants. The schools applied for the Education Foundation’s 2016 Ultimate Collision Education Makeover school grant and these funds will help fulfill the schools collision program’s wish list of needed tools, equipment, and supplies. The Nationwide Insurance school grant recipients include:

  • $25,000- Eastfield College (Mesquite, TX)
  • $10,000- Tidewater Community College (Chesapeake, VA)
  • $5,000- Texas State Technical College (Waco, TX)

California Assembly Insurance Committee Approves Bill that Overturn New Anti-Steering and Labor Rate Regulations

Bill now moves to Appropriations Committee.

At a hearing on April 19, the California Assembly Insurance Committee approved Assembly Bill 1679 (AB 1679) that seeks to overturn California Department of Insurance (CDI) anti-steering and collision repair labor rate regulations that took effect in March.

The bill passed by a unanimous 13-0 vote during the hearing.

As CollisionWeek reported April 11, AB 1679 was introduced by Assemblywoman Autumn Burke. The bill, as amended on April 6, would reverse key provisions of both the anti-steering and labor rate regulations that were adopted by the California Division of Insurance late last year

National AutoBody Research Launches Labor Rate Survey in for New York

The online survey is free for all New York collision repairer centers and can be found on the NABR website.

The VRS Labor Rate Survey provides both collision repairers and insurers with an independent, third party, trusted survey of labor rates in markets across the United States.  The VRS reports labor rate ranges based on shops’ posted labor prices, down to the ZIP code and shop level, filterable by key training, equipment, certifications, and more.

NSF and China Ping An Insurance Introduce Certified Non-OEM Collision Repair Parts in China

NSF International announced at a press conference in Shanghai on April 11, the first aftermarket collision repair parts to earn NSF certification in China. Working with China Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Co., the second largest insurance company in China, the NSF certified parts are included in the China Ping An claims system.
