Collision Repair Industry Production Up in March

After hitting record levels in December and January, production declined in both February but recovered slightly in March.

An analysis of the latest data released from the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), shows that total production for the collision repair industry was up in March versus the previous month and up from March 2016.

The industry’s total production, which we define as the total average weekly hours per month multiplied by the total number of production and non-supervisory workers employed each month, was 7.48 million man hours per week in March, up from 7.47 million man

San Jose Collision Repair Shop Shop Owner Among 18 Charged with Felony Insurance Fraud

The owner of a San Jose, California collision repair shop, his wife, and sixteen others have been charged with an insurance fraud scam during which they staged 15 car accidents to collect about $150,000 in fraudulent claims.

According to allegations by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, the auto insurance fraud ring intentionally damaged cars, using some models several times. One aging Pontiac was used in three separate “accidents” over a single year.

CIECA Project to Incorporate Collision Repair Diagnostic Scans into Data Standards Starts June 19

The Collision Industry Electronic Commerce Association (CIECA), the collision repair industry data communications standards developer, today announced it will begin work June 19 on a new project to implement the exchange and transmission of scanning diagnostics results within the Business Message Suite (BMS).

Announced in May, the project aims to enable the communication of diagnostic scan output files and documents between the collision repair facility, the insurance carrier, or other involved parties.

State Attorneys General Promise Legal Fight to Keep 2022-2025 Vehicle Emission Standards

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman, leading a coalition of 13 Attorneys General and the PA Department of Environmental Protection, warned the Trump Administration that any effort to roll back key vehicle emission standards would be met by a “vigorous” court challenge. In a letter to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt, the coalition makes clear that it will take legal action if the EPA attempts to weaken air pollution standards set for passenger cars and light-duty trucks for model years 2022 to 2025.

NADA Reports Light Trucks Account for 63% of New-Vehicle Sales through May

According to the National Automobile Dealers Assocation (NADA) May edition of Mark Beat, sales of new crossovers, SUVs and pickup trucks continued to gain market share through the first five months of 2017 in the U.S.

More Raids in UK Investigation into Collision Repair Center Data Theft

Investigation continues into theft of body repair customer information from computer systems.

More homes in the United Kingdom have been searched as part of an ongoing investigation by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) into the theft of customer data from collision repair centers. The investigation relates to nuisance calls that encourage people to make personal injury claims about road traffic accidents being linked to the theft of data from the repair centers.

The ICO executed two search warrants this week – one in Gatley, Greater Manchester, on Wednesday and the other in Wilmslow, Cheshire, on Thursday.
