UK Information Commissioner’s Office Raids More Locations in Collision Repair Data Theft Investigation.

Two search warrants were executed today in the United Kingdom as part of an ongoing investigation into nuisance calls related to data theft from collision repair shops.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) carried out the searches this morning at homes in Macclesfield and Droylsden in the North West of England. They relate to an investigation into nuisance calls made to people to encourage them to make personal injury claims in relation to road traffic accidents.

The same investigation saw a business and two homes raided in December.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car acquires CARO Autovermietung in Germany

Enterprise Rent-A-Car Germany announced an agreement to acquire Bremen-based CARO Autovermietung GmbH.

The agreement, for an undisclosed sum, is subject to approval by the German Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt) and is expected to be closed in the coming weeks. Until such approval, the Enterprise and CARO Autovermietung brands will be operated independently, but when the companies are integrated later this year it will expand Enterprise’s branch network and fleet significantly.

Enterprise, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in Germany this year, has more than 160 locations and more than 1,500 employees nationwide.

Maaco Adds New Location in Arizona

California Bill Seeks to Overturn New Collision Repair Anti-Steering and Labor Rate Regulations

Amended bill would eliminate many of the changes that were introduced by the California Department of Insurance in March. Hearing scheduled for April 19 in Assembly Insurance Committee.

California Assembly Bill 1679 (AB 1679) introduced by Assemblywoman Autumn Burke seeks to overturn California Department of Insurance (CDI) anti-steering and collision repair labor rate regulations that took effect in March. The bill has been scheduled for a hearing before the Assembly Insurance committee on April 19.

AIA Canada Signs Cooperation Agreement with China Automotive Maintenance and Repair Trades Association

  • Performance and function requirements

Collision Repair Education Foundation Recognizes 121 School Career Programs

The Foundation has recognized schools across the U.S. with its tiered Collision School Readiness Benchmark.

The Collision Repair Education Foundation announced it has recognized 121 schools with its new designation program called the “Collision School Career Readiness Benchmark” that was launched in 2016.

Under the new program developed by the Foundation, schools were classified into three tiers:

  • Tier 1: Advanced,
  • Tier 2: Proficient, or
  • Tier 3: Developing.

The designation was determined by the Foundation based upon information provided by schools about the capabilities of their program on the Collision Repair Education Makeover grant application.

NADA Expects 2017 Vehicle Sales to Remain at 17.1 Million

Tom Young, Former President of DuPont Automotive Refinish and FinishMaster, Passes Away

Thomas (Tom) Young passed away April 1 at the age of 84. Young spent most of his career at DuPont working at locations including San Francisco, St. Louis, Brussels, Belgium, Detroit, and Wilmington, Del.

Young retired after 35 years with DuPont in the spring of 1996 as Worldwide Director of Automotive Refinish.

In July 1996, Young joined FinishMaster, as President and COO when Lacey Diversified Industries, Ltd. (LDI) purchased the refinish products distributor. During his tenure, FinishMaster expanded dramatically. In 1997, the company acquired Thompson PBE, a west coast distributor, increasing FinishMaster’s reach to 143 branches in 22 states.
